Merlin - Ready for foster (with a view to adopt)
FOSTER WITH A VIEW TO ADOPT ,REQUIRED FOR MARVELLOUS MERLIN ❤️
Merlin is located in East Ayrshire 📍Scotland Post Code area KA6
The foster will be expected to travel and carry out a meet and greet
Merlin is looking for a foster due to his current owners poor health and the environment he is living around
Where Merlin lives he is surrounded by females dogs in the neighbourhood that are not spayed, when they come into season it’s driving Merlin’s hormones crazy
Merlin is not neutered ,a few years ago he was chemically casterated ,this bought on unwanted behaviour which made poor Merlin worse
This lovely boy is adored by his family but with so much going on ,they feel Merlin needs more than they can offer him
Merlin is not getting the exercise he needs ,due to his owners declining health issues.
Also Merlin is classed as a large breed, when he goes out on his walks he can get over stimulated/excited when he see’s other dogs, and will not calm down
Merlin likes to wrestle with other dogs, likes rough play which is not always accepted by other dogs,he has never bitten or been aggressive to dogs or humans
This has resulted in Merlin’s owner ,walking him away from other dogs he doesn’t know.
Merlin does live with an older female doodle, whom is going to live with another family member, they cannot take Merlin as well.
MERLIN IS VERY SPECIAL HE IS ALSO A BLOOD DONOR

Brushed through daily with a slicker brush, which he does not mind
Bath at home in between grooms if needed
Attended a Professional Groomers every 8 weeks ,his groomer only allows 1 to 1 grooming as this is best suited for Merlin’s needs
Merlin’s behaviour started at a groomers where there were too many dogs roaming freely everywhere,Merlin could not cope with so many dogs
Exercise 🏃♂️
Sadly because of his owners declining health,Merlin isn’t getting the exercise he needs
This is the reason he is looking for a new home
Merlin requires least two good walks per day please
As stated he can go off lead if fosters are willing to hire a private paddock from time ,otherwise he must be on a lead
Merlin likes to do a lot of sniffing on his walks ,which is good for any dogs, but whilst doing this he sometimes pulls to get to the scent
Interaction with other dogs whilst out ,as stated he gets very excited, wants to play rough which looks aggressive but it’s his way of playing
He always will bark and lunge to try and get to other dogs whilst on his lead
He has been playing with a relatives 8 month old Border Collie nicely
This gets him all giddy and overstimulated
Further information ℹ️
Merlin is a lively energetic young boy, full of fun and a typical goofy doodle
In the home he is well mannered and when asked to follow a command he will co- operate
Merlin loves people he really is a people dog,not a dog on dog type of dog
He does live with older children and loves his owners children, with little kids he would be too much ,as big and bouncy
Merlin’s social skills -: things like traffic, new places, people, noise etc he is fine
Nothing really phases him apart from other dogs(explained in previous sentences above)
Merlin is toilet trained, but as we state with any dog ,entering a new home ,they may have accidents or mark in a new environment
Merlin sleeps in his owners living room
Never been destructive in his home, not even when he was going through his puppy stage
Never been crate trained
Travel -: Merlin sits in the boot and is happy looking out the window, he also loves the bus/train as he gets so much attention from people on the bus/train
Dislikes -: not keen on the hoover, he used to be scared of it but less so now. He's also not keen on the blaster dyer to dry him after being washed
Likes -: loves a ball and loves to play with a flirt pole
Merlin has not got water wings not a swimmer
He knows quite a few tricks like roll over and play dead and lives for bum/belly/chin scratches
This is been a truly heartbreaking decision for the whole family ,but sadly with restricted mobility issues which are getting worse ,there is no other option for the family to deal with Merlin.
His owner is firm they are not rehoming him due to his reactions to other dogs, but due to declining health issues and they wanted to make this very clear as Merlin is a lovely dog.
They feel in the right hands, the right environment he will go onto be the dog he needs to be
Lack of exercise will benefit him, with some training to help him with other dogs will no doubt be a positive thing for Merlin’s future
Doodle Aid is here to support Merlin’s fosters ,we will cover his food ,vets invoices, behaviourists etc
If his fosters need any assistance they will need to communicate weekly with us so we can be of support
If you live in rented accommodation we will need documentation that a dog can live in this property
