Little Tilly is looking for her forever home, this is due to her lovely owner not being able to manage the attention she so requires

Tilly’s owner believes Tilly needs a home where she gets more exercise, stimulation and more attention

Her owner loves Tilly dearly ,but with Tilly’s owners own personal health issues arising ,Tilly deserves more than what she is getting at present

Tilly can be a little shy and nervous to start with, but once she gains your trust you will have a wonderful companion

Once she gets to know you ,your lap will become her best friend, where she can enjoy lots of strokes and love

Whilst out and about Tilly can get anxious around larger dogs ,and she likes to share her voice to them by barking

This could be due to the following factors :-

Small dogs bark at larger dogs primarily out of fear, using barking as a way to create distance from what they perceive as a threatening presence. Other factors include lack of socialization, leading to anxiety maybe negative past experience with a larger dog; and an owner's own anxiety being transmitted to the dog. Some small breeds may also exhibit inherent traits of bravery and tenacity, or their owners might inadvertently reinforce the behavior by giving them a sense of false confidence or by picking them up, creating a sense of protection but hindering true social skills

This behaviour can be corrected ,with constancy ,patience, kindness and time

Tilly’s temperament:-

Very loving, cuddly, placid. She is very nervous (of other dogs, umbrellas, scooters, vacuum cleaners and unfamiliar objects). However, she can tolerate walking along a busy road with lots of traffic.

Tilly has never shown and aggressive traits and has never bitten

Tilly is very obedient most of the time. She will come when called ,stay still in one place when instructed etc. The only thing owner can't stop her from doing, is barking at cats, other dogs (either through the window or when they appear a threat), birds/squirrels in the garden.

Tilly likes her food and tends to beg for human food ,this might need to be addressed

Grooming

Tilly has curly coat but not tight curls, only sheds minimally as all dogs shed some amount

Home grooming routine :- Clean teeth (about three times a week); clean round eyes (every few days, or more), brush (occasionally - depending on how long the fur gets) brushed at home regularly not overly keen but tolerates the brushing

Tilly’s owner tends to have her groomed (professionally) every 12-16 weeks, though recently they have had her trimmed very close to her body, meaning it takes about 4 months to grow out.)

This was due to the fact it’s was easier for her owner to take care of Tilly’s coat.

Exercise

Two walks - if possible about 1-2 miles each. Tilly really enjoys her walks (if there are no other dogs around - as can be reactive around some dogs

She has lots of energy and could walk much further. Her owner is finding it increasingly difficult to manage walking Tilly further

If only has the use of the garden ,she will bark and with barking comes noise which may attract unwanted attention

She needs more exercise and stimulation in her life ,along with some quiet rest time

Interaction with dogs when out :- She is nervous of any unfamiliar dog and will tend to bark at it and cower. She is OK with dogs she knows well, but certainly won't play with them. We not sure if she is overprotective of her owner (hence the barking when she sees unfamiliar dogs) or nervous herself. (Owner believes the latter because she was chased by two big black labradors when she was very young.) She certainly doesn't like big dogs, especially black ones

Further Information

Tilly is fairly well socialised, she goes out with her owner to visit cafes and meet friends. She is happy as long as she is there and she can sit on her knee.

Tilly is very much a people dog and not a dogs dog

Some would say she is a bit like Velcro with her current owner ,who she adores

Tilly is toilet trained ,but we always state when any dog enters a new and strange environment they might have an accident

At bedtime Tilly sleeps on her owners bed

We do advise her new owner to spend the first few nights with her to settle her ,as Tilly needs this reassurance

Tilly’s owner can leave her for two hours ,but we do advise take this steady as she may not like being left alone at first

She has never been destructive in her home

Never been crate trained

Tilly travels well in the car, sits on the front seat with a secure dog safety harness

Tilly does not particularly like the water - though she tolerates having a bath

Dislikes :- Anything unfamiliar; other dogs (especially large ones - particularly if they're black); sudden noises, cats, birds and squirrels

Likes :- Soft animals, three very small rubber balls. She will throw them around, but best of all likes it when I hold the soft animals and move them around quickly. She tries to pounce on them or chase them

Owners notes

Tilly is a very loving dog who likes nothing better than to snuggle up on your knee. She is extremely attached to her owner (However, she is extremely nervy and her owner is finding that her barking at objects and her nervousness with some dogs is getting too much.she loves her dearly but feels no longer able to provide her with the sort of home and stimulating environment she needs. He4 owner feels she is letting her down and she needs much more. She is absolutely adored by people who know them ,but I don't feel it would be fair on her to rehome her anywhere nearby. She needs a new start, with loving, caring people who can give her the attention, love, support, reassurance and consistency she needs. Tilly was given a close cut when she was groomed three weeks ago, so she doesn't look her best at the moment. Owner has included a photo (taken a few days ago ) She looks absolutely adorable when the fur has grown - very much like a teddy bear.

It will soon grow back,it’s only hair ……
