Honey : Ready for Adoption

This is very important to read all this information carefully ,thank you

Once applications state closed, this is the only time we will contact everyone that has applied for Honey.

Location Warwickshire Post Code Area CV11 ,you will be required to travel to do several meet and greets

Honey is a very very special girl who is now looking for a stable new home.

We are not totally sure about her previous history, but we do know she needs to be settled ,adored and treated like a Doodle Duchess.

Honey was advertised on Pets 4 Home ,a kind person bought her in good faith.

Sadly this person’s circumstances changed, and reached out to our charity for help.

In this persons home Honey was being left for long periods of time ,not getting the adequate things a dog so requires in their daily routines.

We since have found a wonderful Foster who has supported Honey, and taken great care of her whilst in her home, with many thanks.

Since being with her Foster, she has recently gone through being spayed.

The vet believes has been used as a breeding bitch in her short life.

Putting the jigsaw together maybe it was the breeder who put Honey up for sale, because she had served the purpose of being used for breeding.

Honey is 6 years old so it would be the right age to stop any breeding.

This gorgeous girl now does deserves to be in a home where she can have all the love and attention ,in the many years she has left to live.

It’s sad for her past life ,but let’s make sure her future will be something special for her and her new owners.

Person at home with her, most important for Honeys well being

Honey we would like to rehome as an only dog

Children age 10 plus, who are dog savvy and respectful around dogs

No cats

No showboating :- Showboating is someone showing the rescue dog off as soon as they are adopted. Either taking the dog to see people, go to pub or have lots of visitors to your house to say hello in the first week or so. The first week is about you and the dogs getting used to each other, allowing time to adjust and learning to trust each other rather than showing the dog off.

Introducing other people outside of your immediate family who live with you ,only after the dog has had time to get used to you is key ,and by keeping visitors to absolute minimum helps avoid anxiety and stress.

A good size garden, that Honey can enjoy to snooze or have a play.

Fences & walls must be 6 foot high,if there’s are gates we will require them to,have a lock.

If you have any weekends away or any holidays planned please state on your application form.

If you live in rented accommodation ,we will require documentation that a dog can live within the property

Meet Honey

Type Bernedoodle (Bernese Mountain Dog who has been crossed with a Standard Poodle)

Colour we would class her as a Tri Colour ,now her fur is growing her colours are coming through beautifully

DOB March 2018

Spayed April 2024

Weight 33 Kilos

Height 25 inches approximately

Up to date with flea/tick and worming treatment

Honey has attended the vets whilst in foster care, just to give her a full health check.

Her nails were very long and needed trimming.

Honey’s right ear was inflamed the vet administered some drops to use ,this has now caused no further problems.(We do advise cleaning her ears weekly with CleanAural and a make up pad)

Her anal glands were expressed by the vet at this appointment also.

( adding extra fibre in your dogs diet will help reduce this happening)

Grooming Requirements

When Honey was surrendered to Doodle Aid her coat was very short ,this maybe because she was so matted the groomer had no option.

A matted coat can pull on a dogs skin causing pain and skin reactions.

Her coat is now starting to come back to its former glory, and Honey is looking so much better.

Her coat is a curly /wavy she sheds minimally, all dogs shed some amount.

We like her new owners to brush her every few days, rewarding her with a tasty treat.

To take her to a Professional Groomers as often as required we do think with Honey’s coat every 8 weeks would be satisfactory.

If your looking for a highly qualified groomer we suggest you look on the Groomers Spotlight https://www.thegroomersspotlight.com/owners

Groomers and Dog Trainers are not regulated so please do be cautious.

Exercise

When preparing Honey for going for a walk, she gets very happy and excited, raising up onto her hind legs. She is being taught by her Foster to sit and quiet ,before putting her harness on,it’s a slow process but she is learning to accept this and will get there, practice makes perfect.

Honey has been a little unsure on street walking and around people and dogs.

This could well be due to her past ,maybe not trained to interact & being confident during around certain things

Her foster has been working on Honeys confidence, building her up day by day.

Not pushing her ,just letting her adjust at her pace and time.

She was a puller on her leash, but using other gentle tools,Honey is learning to walk nicely by your side.

She is becoming better each day,but this training in a kind and positive manner will need to be continued.

The foster has been using a long training lead to teach Honey some recall, this is working and Honey is picking things up quickly.

We suggest hiring a private paddock where she can have a good run on her own,and the new owners can spend time teaching her some recall.

Honey can be dog reactive ,this means she may bark and lunge at particular dogs.Like us humans we do not like every human ,it’s the same in the dog world.

6 times out of 10 she will walk past other dogs on a short lead, with time and support this can be managed.

It’s best to walk her in quiet areas to start with where you can see dogs approaching.

All this can be managed but never expect things instantly ,Honey has had a hard life previously and may not even been socialised on street walking and meeting and greeting,we just don’t know.

Further Information

Honey is a truly remarkable girl after all she has been through, she still wants lots of affection and love.

You will never be lonely or unloved if you’re lucky enough to be Honeys new owner.

She will follow you to every room even to the toilet if you let her.

One of her quirks is she likes to drink straight from the tap ,so she may have been kept outside sometime in her previous life.

If you’re watching tv or on the computer she will settle by you,and even do a few snoring tunes.

The only command Honey knew was sit ,but that was a start ,in time she will learn more and more and wants to learn.

Honey sleeps on the foster bed ,she likes the security of being close.

Please if you’re lucky enough to become her new owners, do allow her to be close by at night.

She is non destructive in her home ,not touched furniture.

In her home previous to our foster home, she bin raided and counter surfed.

This was due to being left alone for hours I do not want to even mention.

Poor girl was probably bored and trying to find ways to entain herself ,as only she knew how.

Not crate trained, please do not encourage crate this as she does not need to be crated.

Honey maybe nervous in a new home ,toilet accidents may occur ,as can with any dogs entering a strange and new environment. Please do not tell her off ,allow her time to adjust. This may not even happen.

Honey was left for vast periods of time,we never want her in this position ever again.

We need a person at home with her ,to love and guide her and to know she will be ok now.

Honey was not overly keen in the car,but has since done a number of car journeys and has improved massively. With thanks to her foster.

Dislikes fast loud Lorrie’s,scooters and motor bikes.

Likes her soft toys , tennis balls she will destroy.

Honey really is a lovely girl,we all love her and in the right home with the perfect people she will gain her trust, confidence and together you will all have a wonderful future.

This is what Honey so deserves ……
