You will be expected to travel,to carry out several meet and greets ,we ask for for this so the dog in question can get acquainted with yourselves
This has been the hardest decision for this lovely couple to make ,they totally love and adore Benji, and have loved and supported him ,throughout his journey with them both, but with circumstances changing they feel Benji’s needs must come first
Benji is a loving but sensitive dog who has developed strong negative associations with the noises in his home, making it difficult for him to feel settled. Despite significant progress with his health and behaviour—supported by a behaviourist and vet team—his noise reactivity, touch sensitivity, and occasional resource guarding remain ongoing challenges. Much of this behaviour appears to have stemmed from long term gastrointestinal issues, which were only recently diagnosed as enteropathy. (IBD)With medication and a hydrolysed diet, his physical health has improved, but the emotional patterns formed during his period of discomfort have been harder to shift.
Background
His lovely owners are currently undergoing IVF and hope to start a family, they feel that managing Benji’s needs alongside those of a young child ,would be overwhelming for him and could affect his wellbeing.
The constant environmental adjustments required to support him have also taken a toll on their own mental health. His owners believe a calmer home ,free from the triggers and negative associations of his current environment, would give Benji the best chance to thrive.
Benji also can resource guard items particularly chews or the odd sock ,do not give him any chews just stick to his diet.
Looking back, it is clear that much of Benji’s behaviour coincided with the period when he was struggling with undiagnosed stomach pain, his owners believe many of his reactions were rooted in discomfort and anxiety during that time. Now that his medical issues are being better understood and managed, they can see how everything was connected (brain, gut axis)
Away from the the lovely home he lives in at present ,we feel Benji may feel more at ease, more time with confidence building, and away from the traumas associated with his pain etc ,a new and fresh start might be what the Dr just ordered
For this reason, they have chosen Doodle Aid, hoping that our wonderful doodle community can help find the safe, understanding home he so deserves.
Support
Benji has been through so much at such a young age,the poor little mite has suffered with pain, now it’s managed ,we need to find him a special home with people whom will love him for the rest of his life
Benji will need continuing support through his life with his enteropathy ( please only apply if you are 100% certain you feel you can support all Benji’s needs)
Enteropathy in dogs is a general term for intestinal disease, often presenting as chronic,3+ week, vomiting, diarrhea, and weight loss. A severe form is Protein-Losing Enteropathy (PLE), where damaged intestines leak excessive protein, causing low blood albumin, fluid buildup (ascites/edema), and severe weight loss. It is managed through diet, medication, and treating underlying inflammation or infection
( Note Benji has been stable since January ,as his owners stick firmly to managing this disease)
He is fully insured ,his owners and insurance company are willing to transfer his policy over to his new owners
No full time workers please, happy to consider home workers, just as long as you are prepared to adapt to Benji’s needs
Benji would suit a quiet home ,as he can be noise sensitive within his current home environment, resulting in barking. When outside of his home ,this does not seem to happen so frequently
Not confident in a home with stairs,at present he is carried up stairs
We would consider a home with a similar sized dog ,but happy to go with a dog free household also
Children aged 10 and over (as Benji is nervous around small children)
If you have any holidays planned please state on your application form

Benji is a good boy on his lead, does not pull happy to walk along beside you
On some occasions Benji has barked at other dogs whilst out, mainly larger dogs.
His best Buddy is a little dog and happily plays with them
Benji has a soft curly coat, sheds minimally as all dogs shed some amount . Benji requires daily brushing, owners manage in short, positive 2-minute sessions using treats and gentle reinforcement to keep the experience calm and manageable for him
Benji sadly had a negative experience ,with a previous groomer, but this could have been due to his pain ,and over handling in sensitive tummy areas ,before being diagnosed with IBD
His current groomer is wonderful giving Benji a stress free grooming experience
He attends a Professional Groomers every 3 to 6 weeks
Benji has the most joyful, characterful personality and absolutely loves to play—his toys are his world. Every morning he greets his owners with a wiggly bum and proudly brings over his “toy of the day,” ready to start the day with some fun. He adores rolling around on the grass and often gets the sweetest little zoomies on the carpet with his favourite toys. Benji forms very strong bonds with his chosen people and will happily follow you from room to room, settling under owners desks while they work from home. He is a sensitive boy, but he is also playful, full of life, and outrageously smart. He picks up new tricks almost instantly and has really thrived with weekly training sessions, which help keep that clever doodle brain engaged and fulfilled.
Benji has air snapped in the past if you over handle him when he does not want to be fussed,or if you accidentally startled him whilst sleeping.
His general obedience is good and he knows alot of tricks,he attends dog training classes weekly and we would love him to continue
Benji is gentle and affectionate with people, but can be a little sensitive and initially cautious when meeting someone new. He may bark when people first arrive and will often look at his owners for reassurance, but with a calm, low-pressure approach he settles well—usually within 10 minutes. Once he feels comfortable, his true personality comes through and he forms very strong bonds, becoming incredibly loving and loyal. With his trusted people, he absolutely thrives
Benji is toilet trained and can hold his bladder for long periods, but remember we always state with any new dog entering a new home accidents may occur
Benji sleeps in the utility room at night, but we sure he will adapt to your way of his sleeping arrangements
Happy to be left a few hours per day,no issues with separation anxiety
Never been destructive in his home
Likes - Loves all toys and loves tug of war - he will drop in tug of war.Owners used to throw balls but the behaviourist told us to stop as he was too into them ,and it might have contributed to over arousal/ resource guarding
Traits - loves stealing socks and knickers and would resource guard them - he was very happy to trade for a treat in the utiltiy room whilst the other person scooped up the socks
Travels well in the car, maximum time travelled so far is 3 hours
