Meet Bearnard

Background

Bearnard is looking for a new home due to living in a busy environment which he is now finding it very hard to adapt too.

When he was purchased there were older children in his home who he coped with but recently there have been two new arrivals, a toddler and a new born. Sadly Bearnard and the toddler cannot be left together as he likes the toddlers toys and the toddler wants the toys. This has become an issues for all concerned as neither child or doodle mix well.

His owner has decided after an incident to rehome him, Bearnard was having a filled kong and toddler thought they might like the kong as well. This resulted in Bearnard growling and nipping the toddlers finger, no blood was drawn only a small mark. Bearnard has been to training after the incident but his owners now feel this is not the home for him with two tiny children.

We advise no long lasting treats or raw bones for Bearnard, as he tends to resource guard these items.

Must be very difficult to keep an eye on Bearnard, and all the children in their home and they must put everyone’s needs first.

Requirements

A quiet home is best suited for this lovely boy.

Management with his resource guarding.

Can live with older children 13 plus, who are dog savvy and respectful around dogs. WE WILL NOT REHOME BEARNARD WITH BABIES OR YOUNG CHILDREN. IF YOU HAVE VISITING BABIES OR CHILDREN OR ARE PLANNING A FAMILY IN THE FUTURE THIS IS NOT THE DOG FOR YOU, SORRY.

Dog free home. Can live with cats if introduced and supervised slowly.

Must have a safe and secure garden.

Exercise

Bearnard has two walks per day, for approximately 30 minutes per session.

He will need training with his recall, and loose lead training, as he pulls sometimes on his lead.

We always advise new owners not to allow any new rescue dog off lead, unless you have complete trust and control.

Whilst out and about, Bearnard mixes well with some dogs, others he just ignores.

His general obedience is good and he is fairly well socialised.

Likes & Dislikes

Likes: Playing fetch with his ball

Dislikes: Swimming

Bearnard sheds minimally, all dogs sheds some amount.

He gets brushed regularly at home, not always cooperative, training with treats may help the situation.

Attends a professional groomers every 4 weeks, he may howl when you leave him at the groomers but does settle eventually.

Bearnard is a lovely boy. He was once the baby of the household and now struggles to understand why he no longer receives most of the attention.

His behaviour changed when the babies arrived, and it has been hard for the family to divide their time between everyone.

Their home is busy, and Bearnard needs attention as well as a quiet space to be happier.

He is affectionate, cuddly, loving, and lively, but he does not settle well at present due to the activity in the home.

Diet: Pooch and Mutt, twice a day.

Treats: No long-lasting treats; only treats that can be digested quickly.

Bearnard is toilet trained, though any dog may mark while settling into a new home.

He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate at night.

He has never been destructive in his home.

He can be left alone for a few hours per day, though no longer than this as advised by the charity.

Car travel: He pants for a while but is not travel sick.

Bearnard is truly loved by his owners, but the situation with the children has become too much for everyone to manage.

They want the best for Bearnard and their children, and DoodleAid will do everything possible to help find him the right home.
