Dug is your typical young goofy doodle, a very energetic, bouncy, playful dog who enjoys chasing a ball and football.
Dug is a much loved member of his family, sadly in life nobody knows what’s around the corner. His owners have not made this decision lightly, it’s been very hard for them all. With change of circumstances within the family, work commitments, children's after school activities, Dug needs more than they can give him.
We need to find this super boy the best home DoodleAid can.
No full time workers please. His new people need to be fit, active for this energetic goof ball.
Dug can live with ONE other dog, a younger dog that will match his energy and enthusiasm to life. He does live with a much older dog, who just wants peace and quiet. No cats.
Can live with children 12 years and older. No little ones and he still tends to jump up and may accidentally knock them over.
Your garden needs to be safe and secure, with a lock on any gates.
No showboating Dug for at least a week, let him settle into your home with your family before introducing him to other people.
Dug loves his walks and is walked for around an hour per day.
He is only let off his lead in a hired paid for dog paddock. We do not recommend any rescue dog be allowed off their leads unless you are confident with their recall. Dugs recall is hit and miss, can easily be distracted (we believe more recall training is a appropriate).
Initially Dug can pull on his lead but use a halti so this aids not pulling. He will pull if he sees a cat.
Interacts with other dogs he is friendly and approachable. Likes to say hello and displays he wants to play.
Likes: A variety of toys/soft toys but enjoys a flyaway football.
Dislikes: Fireworks and loud bangs

He enjoys a good ear scratch and is a loveable giant who doesn't realise his size.
He has never shown any aggressive behaviour and has never bitten.
He would benefit from some further training. He follows “sit” and “paw”. Recall to the word “here” but this is hit and miss. Enrolling in training sessions is great bonding for owners and dogs.
House guests and people :- Dug is very friendly/bouncy. Will jump up at people who come into the house. Likes to rub against people on walks and be stroked.
Dug is toilet trained, but we do state any dog can urinate, mark or soil whilst settling into their new environment.
Dug sleeps on his owners bed at night, if it gets too hot he removes himself to the floor. Whilst any dog is settling into a new home we ask do sleep in the same room as them for the first few nights,
He can be left for short periods of time, this is best after he has been walked. His owners leave him enriching items such as a snuffle mat or kong.
Never been destructive with furniture. He has on occasion chewed items he has been able to reach such as pens/pencils/TV remote or children's toys.
Travels well in the car in the back seat with a dog friendly harness attached.
Unsure if Dug can swim, never had the opportunity to try.
He is such a gentle giant who has so much love to give and would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the day and be able to take him on adventures.
He loves the company of other dogs, and has boarded with home boarders who speak only positively of Dug.
He is a large part of his current family but they feel he needs and deserves a lot more than they can give him.
His owners will only ever let him go knowing it is the right home for him and DoodleAid will support/help to find this beautiful young boy the best home.
