Meet Dennis & Honey
Background
Dennis and Honey are both adored by their current family, this has not been an easy decision for them to make.
The family are emigrating and with a heavy heart decided the travel at a great distance would not be fair on Dennis and Honey. Both of these fabulous little dogs were born in Australia.
DoodleAid has made a promise to find them the perfect home together, as they are the best of friends.
Requirements
Person or persons at home; no full-time workers. They would suit a family with older children aged 12 plus, or an early retired couple with time on their hands to enjoy these two dogs.
No other dogs (both are sociable dogs, but we would like to rehome them as the only dogs in their new home). No cats.
Children over 12 only (if you have visiting children, they must be supervised, as Honey can be nervous around small children; if you are planning a family in the future or have babies or small children, these are not the dogs for you).
Garden must be safe and secure; gates must have a lock. If you have a pond, it must be covered.
Absolutely no showboating Dennis and Honey the first week (this means allow them time to settle with you only, in your own home).
Exercise
Dennis and Honey have a 30 minute walk in morning, 45 minute walk in afternoon/evening, longer walks at weekend.
Both do go off lead, as a responsible charity we do not advise you allow either of them off lead until you have complete control and trust on their recall.
Recall :- Honey better than Dennis - Dennis can get distracted by other dogs - Honey tends to stick close to owners. Always good to put in extra training with newly rescued dogs, great for bonding.
Lead pulling they do not really - if excited will sometimes pull to start but owners tend to wait until they are calm before putting on lead and leaving home.
Likes & Dislikes
Likes: Honey loves ball throwing and catching - will play for hours! Dennis loves tug of war with toys (with other dogs as well as humans)!
Dislikes: Honey isn’t keen on hoover but isn’t scared as such of it
Dennis has a tight curly coat, only sheds minimally as all dogs shed some amount.
Honey has a soft coat with a light curl, sheds minimally as all dogs shed some amount.
Both are brushed daily without any issues, you must keep on top of their coats as doodles coats easily matt.
Attends a professional groomers every 8 to 10 weeks.
Interaction with other dogs :- Dennis- wants to play, interested; Honey - fairly nonplussed and won’t give dogs much attention. Both have attended Doggy Day care, both well socialised dogs.
Obedience :- Both good obedience. Understand ‘leave’ and other basic instructions.
Dennis is fun loving, loves being chased by other dogs, nosey - likes to be in thick of action/attention, very smart.
Honey is very loving and affectionate, loves games and chasing balls.
Neither dog have shown any behavioural issues, both non aggressive dogs.
Interaction with people -: Dennis can be a bit aloof to start with but once he knows you and is comfortable is very loving and playful. Honey is very affectionate, will bark at strangers entering home and will hide behind her owners to start with, but gets comfortable and is fine (this only occurs in owners home- fine with people out and about).
Both live with older children in the family, Honey gets startled with younger children.
Both dogs interact with each other well, from time to time they might give a warning growl if one wants a toy or treat the other one has at the time. This is quite normal behaviour, just like children when one wants something the other one has at the moment in time.
NOTE Both dogs are used to someone being home most of time - have never been out to work full time (have been remote/hybrid) and owners feel they would struggle if they were to be left for long periods alone.
NOT TO BE LEFT ANY LONGER THAN TWO HOURS PER DAY.
Both Dennis and Honey are toilet trained but as we always state with any dogs settling into a new environment be prepared for any little accidents.
Both dogs sleep in their owners bedroom at night in their dog beds but sometimes they might sneak onto their humans beds.
Neither of these lovely dogs have been destructive in their home.
They are not crated currently at all but they are both crate trained, and will happily go into their crate if needed.
Car travel :- Both travel well however Dennis will sometimes whine (with excitement or nerves) and Honey will sometimes join in. Both travel in boot with dog guard and are tethered.
Swimming/water :- Honey - big yes; Dennis - big no,
Both Dennis and Honey will make wonderful companions, we just need to find them the right match, to be their forever home and to be well loved and cared for for the rest of their doodle days.
