Meet Benny
Background
Benny is dearly loved by his current owner, sadly there has been a relationship breakdown, a move and owner not managing, with financial issues helping Benny's future.
His current owners purchased Benny when he was 5 months old.
We believe he missed the vital times in his puppy period, between 8 weeks and 3 months to gain his social skills.
With this he has become a nervous young dog, fearful around traffic & other dogs, nervous in vets, fearful at the groomers, around some men until he gains trust, and has separation anxiety.
We would love to find a foster placement willing to help this little bundle of nerves with full support of DoodleAid behind both the fosters and Benny.
He will need a calm presence, a home with a garden, and support of a fully qualified behaviourist.
Little Benny has had a hard few months, he is not settled in himself, once settled and he can gain some confidence with support, we are hoping in time he will adjust and become a less anxious little dog.
We love to give Benny a chance as he is only a very young dog, we are hoping someone with a huge heart can help him, and maybe go onto adopt him in the future.
Requirements
We are looking for a foster who has energy to support a lively little dog, with some behavioural issues, with support from us.
No full time workers, as Benny suffers with separation anxiety.
This will need time and management in place.
To be the only dog in the household.
Prefer at adult home only, but may accept older dog savvy children, 14 and above.
(no visiting small children)
No cats - will chase.
Safe and secure garden.
Exercise
Benny is reactive out on his walks, this involves being around traffic and other dogs.
Once he got himself in a right old state, and would not calm down and caught his owner, giving a bite which was more of a grab.
This was because he was so high on fear, no blood was drawn.
Benny will need time, patience and management with all of these behaviours.
We will give the support as and when the fosters require our help, but you do need to be aware of everything we reveal about him.
He has never been off lead, and no foster dogs should be off lead unless in a hired dog paddock.
Benny also pulls on his lead, so would need loose lead training.
Note from his owner
"Someone who has time and money to be able to work with a trainer/ behaviourist to help his reactivity and separation anxiety. He is such a lovely sweet caring boy and it breaks my heart having to even think about doing this. He deserves better where someone can afford to pay for all his training and be there at home for him."
DoodleAid will pay vets expenses, food, behaviourist support and will discuss any other expenses going forward with his fosters.
PLEASE PLEASE WE NEED TO GIVE THIS YOUNG BOY A CHANCE IN LIFE, WE FEEL VERY STRONGLY ABOUT HELPING HIM MANAGE HIS WAYS GOING FORWARD.
Remember DoodleAid is here to support all fosters and the foster dogs.
Likes & Dislikes
Likes: Tug of war and chew toys
Dislikes: The hoover and loud noises
Benny as you can see by the photos has a very long coat, this is because his owner has not managed to get him to the groomers, as he is so nervous.
They have tried with several groomers but they will not accept him.
He is groomed at home, bathed and brushed when needed.
DoodleAid we help with the process in due course, we just need to allow him to settle in first.
Benny has a curly coat which only sheds slightly, all dogs shed some amount.
Nervous at the vets.
Benny is a loveable affectionate dog, still really only a puppy, needs some reassurance, training and love and most of all time
He is crated a night time, this is due to him living in a temporary home without a garden.
He is toilet trained but at present living in a flat without a garden, so needs taking out regularly or he will have accidents.
He travels well in the car, with a safety harness in place.
Recently with the move he has travelled 5 hours without any issues.
Dislikes the Hoover will try and attack it, fears traffic, loud noises, dogs, and will bark at strangers coming into the home until he settles.
Cannot be left alone at home, his owner only just manages to have 10 minute shower before Benny starts getting over anxious.
Colour: Apricot.
Male not neutered.
Height 13.5 inches.
Weight 7.5 kg approximately.
Booster due August 2026.
Up to date with flea/tick and worming treatment.
No know health issues.
Once settled in foster, we would like the fosters to take Benny for a full health check, DoodleAid covers the expenses.
We do this with all foster dogs in our care.
