Foster a Doodle

Foster care

If an emergency situation arises, we may use foster parents. These carers are also fully vetted and home-checked.

DoodleAid is on call for our fosters 24/7 and is always at the end of the phone. We supply everything a foster Doodle may need in their home, but we must be informed in advance of any requirements.

We only take in a small number of Doodles at a time, as we want to give each one our full attention. We also limit how many dogs we advertise at once to ensure that all have a fair chance of finding the right home.

What is your role

Fostering is a very important role; if you’re at home all day and can give a dog a temporary home, whilst DoodleAid is looking for a permanent home, this would be the single most important gift for DoodleAid and a DoodleAid dog. All our dogs go from home to home (we do not use kennels).

Each fosterer will receive everything they need as Doodleaid pays for vets' fees, food, grooming, dog training and any practical thing the dog requires, subject to agreement from the Trustees firstly.

You will need to be over the age of 21 and able to transport a dog to appointments. We are particularly short on homes without children or with either no cats or dogs or both, as many of the dogs that come to us do so because they have issues with these.

You’d need to be reasonably fit and active (dogs need exercise). You would get phone/email assistance from a DoodleAid Coordinator, who is experienced and on hand to help.

What does it involve

Becoming a foster carer is one of the most rewarding jobs you can offer any dog. You are a very special person who gives your all in loving and caring for a foster dog. DoodleAid foster carers can adopt a foster dog so long as they express this interest before another suitable adopter does.

All the information you gather about a foster dog during their time in your home is also invaluable for finding them their perfect home. We can use your observations to match them with a new family and to make the adjustment to their permanent home as easy as possible for them.

We know that without our team of volunteers, DoodleAid could not continue its life-changing work for many dogs and people.
