Baxter : NOW ADOPTED

URGENT APPEAL PLEASE FOLKS ,LOOKING FOR A FOSTER WITH A VIEW TO ADOPT OR A STRAIGHT ADOPTION.

Please read carefully before applying for Baxter ,thank you

Baxter is located in DoncasterPost a code area DN2 .

The potential applicant ,will be expected to do several meet and greets.

We would like to rehome Baxter only an hour or so away,as he does not take to long distance car travel well.

Baxter’s owners are heartbroken they are having to rehome Baxter.

Sadly the dynamics within their family are very hard,as caring for a sick relative, has become too much for them all.

This is having a negative impact on Baxter, and they feel his needs are more than they can give him at present.

Baxter is located in a boarding kennel some of the week ,as there is nobody else to care for him whilst family are visiting the poorly relative.

He cannot go with them as he does not travel distances well in a car.

Baxter is not coping well being away from his family ,and this has resulted in him becoming shy and timid at times.

He has some resource guarding issues ,but if offered a custard cream as a swap,he will submit the item.

May counter surf if things are at his level,so please keep things out of his reach.

Laundry needs to put away ,as he might run off with an item, sure neighbours do not want to see him swinging smalls around

Paper tissues, kitchen and toilet rolls he will shred given the opportunity.

As Doodle Aid as a caring charity ,feel we need to find him a temporary home or a permanent home asap.Baxter needs human companionship and does not cope very well with kennel life.

Think maybe using a kennel when necessary and then coming back home might be confusing for him.

NO ther dogs ,or visiting dogs on the household

NO cat's,will bark or chase

Can be in a home with children over 10 years old,who are dog savvy

A secure garden ,gates must have a lock ,not communal garden

Persons at home most of the day would be preferred ,as Baxter is not getting the training and attention he requires.

People that have the time to put into Baxter’s care, lots of nice walks, playtime, some training, giving him the confidence to shine again.

If you have a holiday planned please note this on your application form

Exercise

Baxter is walked twice a day ,at weekends it was longer but this has lapsed a little due to the information above.

He does go off his lead, only in a safe and secure area,we do not advise this until you have complete trust in one another.

All our foster dogs we do not allow off lead unless a paddock is hired.

His recall can be good, but if distracted by chasing birds this goes out the window.

Baxter can walk well on his lead, but if he gets excited he may pull.

He loves to spend his time sniffing everything.

He does not take part in any activities, but he would be a great example to start agility or scent work.

Whilst out on his walks Baxter can sometimes be ambivalent other dogs ,he will have a sniff, and move on.

General information

Baxter is a fun, loving, active, energetic boy,he likes to be close by his owners, not overly affectionate but likes to sit right by them.

He is looking for comfort and attention, just knowing you are close by makes him feel loved.

Because Baxter is timid he may take a little while to gain confidence with you, once he has your trust he will be your friend.

Will bark if there’s a knock at the door ,if people visit he will eventually warm to them in his own time.

Once he gets your attention he is a happy fella.

Baxter has never bitten a human or another dog.

His general obedience is good ,he knows sit,lie down, gives paws and when ask to stop he will follow your command.

If Baxter is looking out the window in his home ,and sees a cat he will bark.

With Baxter there’s always room for improvement as with any dog ,keep things constant and carry on with some training.

Baxter is toilet trained, but we always say be prepared for the odd accident, with any rescue dog entering a new and strange environment.

He sleeps in his owners bedroom at night,on their bed

Can be left for short periods of time,no longer than a few hours as he likes company.

Baxter is not crate trained

Car travel Baxter can manage short journeys ,doesn't like travelling much, he sits and drinks, owners use a car harness.

Baxter dislikes like motorbikes, sirens, owners live quite near a hospital which does not help with the noise.

He loves water especially the dirtier the better, not sure if he swims

Baxter loves to play ball ,but does not bring it back, likes squeaky toys and a frisbee.

Baxter loves to be the centre of your world, unfortunately he is being pushed to the sidelines through no fault if his own. He would thrive with someone at home...not working all day to focus on extending his training.

In the right home Baxter will bloom with the aid of persons willing to help him grow again into a bright sunflower.

If you live in a rented accommodation we will require documentation that a dog can live in this property.

Any potential applicants we will have a full vetting system in place ,including a homecheck.

If you are happy to foster Baxter ,Doodle Aid will provide full support and pay for his needs in his foster home.

The fosters we would be grateful,if they can take him to appointments when necessary ie vets or groomers and to carry out some training if requested.

If a preference is a straight adoption ,his adoption fee is £300 which goes straight back into the charity.
